That was our President. A "what you see is what you get" philosophy. Not ego driven, no presidential pipe dreams, to be Speaker of the House was his soul political ambition. But as we know, history had other ideas.

Mr. Ford's pardon of President Nixon was railed by democrats and Republicans alike. That included the staunchest liberal, Ted "if you're a Republican, you're wrong" Kennedy. However, when the public and history itself discerned the wisdom of President Ford's decision, even Ted Kennedy made a mea culpa.

Rest in peace, Mr. President. Your country mourns your passing.
