U.S.-Mexico Social Security Totalization Agreement

Illegal immigrants will be eligible for social security benefits almost 10 times sooner than American citizens will if President Bush signs the above agreement. American citizens must normally contribute to the FICA tax for 40 quarters i.e. 10 years, to become eligible to collect. Under the proposed agreement with Mexico, illegals will contribute only 6 quarters i.e. 18 months to become eligible to collect benefits. Does that make good horse sense, donkey sense or elephant sense? It makes good horse dung, donkey dung and elephant dung, we'll say that. Social security is on the doorsteps of bankruptcy and Bush is contemplating signing a nutso agreement like this?!!?

However, Bush does not stand alone in his craziness.

Senator Pat Leahy (D-VT) says "We should not steal their [the illegals] funds or empty their Social Security accounts. That is not fair. It does not reward their hard work or their financial contributions. It violates the trust that underlies the Social Security Trust Fund."

Is this guy sick or smoking something? That's crazy talk.

Pseudo-Republican John McCain (R-AZ) offered the following,

"We all know that millions of undocumented immigrants pay Social Security and Medicare taxes for years and sometimes decades while they work to contribute to our economy."

"The Ensign amendment (Ed. Note: an amendment to preclude this from happening) would undermine the work of these people by preventing lawfully present immigrant workers from claiming Social Security benefits that they earned before they were authorized to work in our community. If this amendment were enacted, the nest egg that these immigrants have worked hard for would be taken from them and their families."

Awe golly gee, John, let us weep a little louder. If a bank robber pays social security taxes on the money he stole, do you want him to collect SS? You want to be president? Straighten up your act!!!!

Our concern is Bush can enact this agreement without congressional approval. Then again, with the attitude of political correctness so prevalent in Washington today, this matter probably doesn't make a difference to the new liberal congress, anyway.

Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your attention

and have a good evening. The bar is open.

How do you see it?
