He Just Doesn't Get It
Fourteen more members of Jimmy Carter's think tank leadership board resigned 1/11/07 over the former president's new book Palestine; Peace Not Apartheid.
Their resignation letter's opening comments summarized their sentiments.
"As members of the Board of Councilors each one of us has been proud to be associated with the Carter Center in its noble struggle to repair the world. However, in light of the publication of your latest book Palestine; Peace Not Apartheid and your subsequent comments made in promoting the book, we can no longer in good conscience continue to serve the Center as members of the Board of Councilors."
The members go on to state, "In your book, which portrays the conflict between Israel and her neighbors as a purely one-sided affair with Israel holding all of the responsibility for resolving the conflict, you have clearly abandoned your historic role of broker in favor of becoming an advocate for one side."
Last December the director of the Institute for the Study of Modern Israel of Emory University, Kenneth Stein, resigned saying the book distorts history to shape the reader's opinion to one side of the issue.
Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard law professor, called Carter a coward for refusing to debate him about the book, "It's the height of cowardice. He released this book saying he wanted to spark a debate and now he refuses to do just that."
Not only is Carter a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, but in 2006 Carter won the STUP Award three times. We will not honor his senility with a fourth. This guy just doesn't get it!
Thank you ladies and gentlemen for your attention and have a good evening.
