The PERSPI Award

Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-CA)

CSW 07-03

We had not heard of Representative Elton Gallegly (R-CA) until now. What caught our eye was a series of six bills he recently (01/04/07) introduced regarding illegal immigration. We wholeheartedly support his proposals. They are simple, inexpensive, easily implemented and good for America, especially H.R. 133. However, if CSW had a say, we would deny citizenship to the children of non-citizens and permanent resident aliens until BOTH parents became citizens.

Mr. Gallegly's ideas:

H.R. 131 - To impose a mandatory minimum sentence on a deportable alien who fails to depart or fails to attend a removal proceeding.

H.R. 132 - To impose a criminal penalty on an alien who fails voluntarily to depart the United States after securing permission to do so, or who unlawfully returns to the United States after voluntarily departing.

H.R. 133 - To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship at birth to children born in the United States of parents who are not citizens or permanent resident aliens.

H.R. 134 - To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny visas and admission to aliens who have been unlawfully present in the United States for more than 6 months.

H.R. 136 - To amend title II of the Social Security Act to provide that individuals and appropriate authorities are notified by the Commissioner of Social Security of evidence of misuse of the Social Security account numbers of such individuals.

H.R. 137 - To require an employer to take action after receiving official notice that an individual's Social Security account number does not match the individual's name, and for other purposes.

We know, we know. This legalese stuff is boring, but Mr. Gallegly's ideas are solid and perspicacious. His proposals deserve the PERSPI!
