All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

If the two PERSPI's have their way, the above clause will be struck and children born in the United States to legal or illegal foreign persons will have to receive U.S. citizenship the old-fashioned way; they must earn it!

Their respective bills, if approved, will negate the 14th amendment which gives automatic U.S. citizenship to anyone born in the U.S.

"To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to deny citizenship at birth to children born in the United States of parents who are not citizens or permanent resident aliens."
Ed. Note: How about adding "legal" to "permanent resident aliens."

The 14th amendment's original aim was to ensure that children born in America to persons brought here for the purpose of slavery would be given citizenship. Slavery has been outlawed since President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation many years go, thereby rendering this amendment obsolete.

Bills have been submitted before, never to see the light of day.
H.R. 698 [Last year's 109th Congress] Citizenship Reform Act of 2005 (87 co-sponsors) was introduced Feb 9, 2005 and was never given consideration.

CSW has called for the repeal of Section One of the Fourteenth Amendment for years. Now is the time. Let the people speak.

No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
