The PERSPI Award

Rep. Sam Johnson (R-TX)

CSW 07-07

On Friday 2/16/2007, Rep. Johnson made an inspiring, patriotic plea to the House of Representatives to vote against the shameful non-binding resolution precluding the deployment of additional troops to Iraq, otherwise known as the "surge."

Mr. Johnson's impassionate plea came from a man who was a P.O.W. in Vietnam. "Debating non-binding resolutions aimed at earning political points only destroys morale, stymies success, and emboldens the enemy.
"The grim reality is that this House measure is the first step to cutting funding of the troops...Just ask John Murtha about his 'slow-bleed' plan that hamstrings our troops in harm's way."

It was an awe-inspiring speech of great dimension. It reads like a suspenseful short story and is Article Three in this issue of CSW.

Unfortunately his words went for naught as the democrats won out and the resolution passed 246-182. Seventeen (17) Republicans voted with the democrats; two democrats voted with the Republicans.

The resolution failed in the Senate.

Thank you, Mr. Johnson, for your patriotism and service to our country. A well deserved PERSPI recipient.
