State of Arizona's

Employer Sanctions Law

CSW 07-23

Arizona's legislature has passed a new employer sanctions law.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2008, the law will require employers in Arizona to verify the employment eligibility of new workers through a federal database.

Employers caught knowingly or intentionally hiring illegal immigrants will face a 10-day business license suspension for a first offense and a permanent revocation after a second offense. Not surprisingly, the A.C.L.U. is against the law and has filed suit.

You know, folks, the law may not be perfect but it's a damn good start!! If the A.C.L.U. is against it, it must be good law.

Only Georgia, Colorado, Oklahoma and now Arizona require the use of the employee verification system.
