Our feelings and our solutions regarding illegal immigration have been well documented throughout numerous CoffeeShopWeekly issues. So when New York's governor Eliot Spitzer proposed issuing drivers licenses to in-state illegal aliens, well we lost it.

The moronic idea that giving illegals a license to drive will improve road safety, driving down insurance costs as a result is absurd. So absurd is the whole idea that James M. Staudenraus filed a taxpayer's lawsuit that says the change in policy is a "wrongful expenditure, misappropriation, misapplication and other illegal and unconstitutional disbursement of state funds as well as unlawful conduct."

Also at contention is the current law which requires an applicant to provide a social security number which, as we know, illegals do not have.
Governor Spitzer has no problem with that; he will roll back the DMV policy to pre-1995 when a social security number wasn't required. Is this guy nuts?

Hillary Clinton is for the bill.

Did you know that seven states allow illegal aliens to get a driver's permit of some sort: Hawaii, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington?

And according to a Rasmussen pole seventy-seven percent (77%) of American adults are opposed to making drivers licenses available to people who are in the country illegally. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that just 16% take the opposite view and believe that illegal immigrants should be allowed to get a license.
