Governor Sonny Perdue's state of Georgia is drying up. A severe drought has hit the state. Today, 11/13/07, the governor plans a prayer meeting to ask for some relief.
The STUP winning group Atlanta Freethought Society, a secular atheist group or "non-theists" as they refer to themselves, is going to protest the prayer meeting because, "The governor can pray when he wants to. What he can't do is lead prayers in the name of the people of Georgia," according to organizer Ed Buckner.
Buckner continued, "We don't elect officials to lead us on religious issues. I'd be just as opposed to the governor convening a bunch of atheists on state grounds to talk about how foolish prayer is." Of course you would, sir. Why don't we believe that.
Buckner's group is also whining about the separation of church and state. CSW is getting a little tired of the twisted secular logic of that argument, too. An overflow crowd of 12 of its 125 members plans to participate in todays protest. A committed group, aren't they?
The Atlanta Freethought Society has a first amendment right to their protests and we have a right to call them stupid.
