The STUP Award
General Merrill McPeak
Co-chair, Obama Campaign
CSW 08-08
Former President Bill Clinton made a benign comment Friday, 3/21/08, that was jumped on by the Obama camp. Is Obama desperate or what?
Here is President Clinton's quote, "I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country. And people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics."
Merrill "Tony" McPeak, a co-chairman of Obama's campaign, said today 3/22/08, "As one who for 37 years proudly wore the uniform of our country, I'm saddened to see a president employ these tactics. He of all people should know better because he was the target of exactly the same kind of tactics." Hello? Is anybody home??? What did Clinton say that got McPeak all riled up? Beats the stuffing out of us!
McPeak equated Clinton's comments to ones made by Senator Joseph McCarthy, a 1950's era communist headhunter, a person to whom you don't want compared. While talking to reporters on Friday, McPeak said, "I grew up, I was going to college when Joe McCarthy was accusing good Americans of being traitors, so I've had enough of it."
Somewhere in Clinton's comments Obama's co-chair heard some anti-patriotism remarks against Obama. We didn't. Is this a sign of being "thin skinned?" Is this the "eggshell syndrome" manifesting its ugly head?
Whatever it is, the Obama camp has won another STUP Award. Congrats, STUPS.
