Re: 09-05 Is He Really Our President?
- Great issue. I had not heard of Officer Scott Easterling, but I'm so glad you told us about him. A true American patriot indeed at a time when we haven't seen or heard of one of those in a LONG time. A man willing to risk his life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness to defend the very foundation of our nation, the Constitution. I am in awe of a person with such courage.
What an inspiration to all of us who know instinctively that all is not well with our country right now, and that we have been treading down this path for a long time. When the day comes that enough of us gather even a fraction of the courage this soldier has, then the traitorous wimps in Congress and the White House won't know what to do except run for the hills. The uprising will be great and historic. I look forward to the revolution.
Ed. Note: I don't know how all of this will play out. If it's true, we'll never know it. The embarrassment to the U.S. would be too great.
- I wrote a check the other day for 786 billion. I hope it doesn't bounce ! I was only 1 billion short of your tax money.
Ed. Note: Don't worry. I'm sure bad checks are covered somewhere in the "stimulus" bill.
- Regarding the spending of George W. Bush, frankly I'm surprised the liberals don't worship the man. He spent money like there was no tomorrow, until Obama showed up and showed all of us how to REALLY spend money. The fact is, the minute Bush labeled himself a "compassionate conservative," I knew we were in for some trouble. He knows conservative principles, and yet he also knows that his father got socked for paying more attention to foreign affairs than domestic issues. My theory is that W was trying to fix that legacy for his dad by increasing spending on domestic programs.
I was very supportive of Bush and still have very fond opinions of the job that he did in a challenging time of our history. I had always wished he would be a bit more confrontational with the media because his habit of trying to ignore and rise above sometimes gave us, his supporters, little material to support him. On the other hand, you are right that he was indeed "damned if you do, damned if you don't." The media wouldn't cut the man a break for anything, ever. The utter loathing for him was and still is beyond comprehension. I think he decided that the job he had to do every single day was far greater than worrying about whether the jerks in the media liked him or not. That is a true leader.
Unfortunately, I think he fell into the same trap that his father did, which was when Bush 41 broke the "no new taxes" pledge. He attempted to get along with the Democrats, and agree to a tax hike deal with them. No sooner had he agreed to it and they turned around and stabbed him in the back with it. Bush 43 did the same thing with the stimulus checks last year and the bailout in the fall. (When will Republicans learn that they cannot play with Democrats!!!!!)
These were not conservative decisions, and he was again trying to play nice with the liberals and agree to their insane ideas on how to "save" the economy. Please! Spending more money is not the way and he knew it, which is why he implemented tax CUTS early in his first term. Bush was truly a dichotomy - very conservative on some issues, exasperatingly liberal in others. Also known as, "a compassionate conservative!"
Now the liberals want to expand the precedent set with Bush's spending and put it on steroids, all the while claiming that the only way to get all the spending by Bush under control is to spend three times as much. Good Lord! Words cannot begin to address such arrogance and stupidity.
Sorry this is so lengthy. Please edit as you wish.
Ed. Note: No apology needed. Your points are very well taken.

Ed. Note: I second the motion.
