The Dufus and the Free Choice Act
Not long ago (2/11/09) we honored Arlen Specter (R-PA) with a STUP Award. That hasn't stopped him from furthering his reputation by doing stupid things like siding with Obama in favor of the "Free Choice Act." Also known as "card check," this bill essentially does away with the secret ballot when voting for/against a union. It was union support in 2004 that helped Specter retain his senate seat, therefore, he owes them.
Specter was one of three Republicans to vote for Obama's outlandish, wasteful, stimulus bill. Specter also supports Obama's housing bill which passed the House vote Thursday 3/5/09.
Then there is the case of the budget for the remainder of this fiscal year. It's full of earmarks (about 9000) and is 8% higher than the last budget. Although it hasn't reached a vote yet in the senate, we hear Specter will vote for it.
Mr. Specter, for your relentless pursuit of stupidity, we present you with the STUP Award.
