The STUP Award
Former Navy Secretary Donald Winter
CSW 09-08
In one of his last acts before leaving office in March of this year, then Navy Secretary Donald Winter awarded former STUP Award winner Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) the Navy's Distinguished Public Service Award, the service's highest civilian award. According to a Murtha spokesman, the award is given in "those extraordinary cases where individuals have demonstrated exceptionally outstanding service of substantial and long term benefit to the Navy, Marine Corps, or the Department of the Navy as a whole."
But here's the rub. Murtha is the moron that accused our troops fighting in Iraq of killing innocent people in cold blood. Remember this about a Marine shooting incident in Haditha, Iraq in which civilians died? Murtha's quote, "There was no firefight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops over reacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood."
Eight Marines were charged with the killings; seven have been totally exonerated, the eighth still faces charges, but the case has been continued indefinitely.
Moron Murtha has been called the "most corrupt member of congress." In retaliation, Murtha told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, "If I'm corrupt, it's because I take care of my district. My job as a member of Congress is to make sure that we take care of what we see is necessary."
Nitwit Nancy loves Murtha.
There is an effort afoot to have Murtha's award rescinded, but the chances the Navy will do that are slim and none.
So, Mr. Secretary Winter, for your meritorious stupidity of honoring John Murtha, you, too, are honored with the prestigious STUP Award.
