CSW COMMENTS ON

PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE III

THE GRAND FINALE

Dateline Tempe, Az CSW 10/13/04

“Well,” said the undertaker as he finished his last mummy, “that about wraps it up.”

And so it goes with the debates. Both candidates presented themselves to America and America will choose its president on November 2nd.

Did the debates matter? Not very much. Nothing we heard was profound or different enough to swing many if any votes. If you’re still an undecided voter, you are fooling yourself. If Kerry has snookered you into believing he is not a flip-flopper, then Kerry is fooling you.

So how about Wednesday’s grand finale in John McCain’s home state of Arizona? CSW has many loyal readers in Arizona and we received great feedback. Here's a synopsis of the debate by one of them:

We DID watch this debate, along with the others. The second debate you wrote that you felt the President lost the discussion to Kerry. I strongly disagree. When Bush was asked a question, he did his best in my estimation, to answer it. He was concise, honest and left little room for doubt about his position. On the other hand, we really tired of Kerry's "this administration" this and "this administration" that, and hist constant droning about all these "plans" he has.

Tonight's debate the President showed the same consistancy as he showed in the second. His ability to LEAD. The only difference tonight, he didn't waste his time trying to tear Kerry down, he let Kerry do himself in. Bush stuck to the facts, reaffirmed his convictions, and showed that he really does have a domestic agenda. Because the President wouldn't follow Kerrys lead......he threw him off guard. That alone showed that Kerry is not good enough on his feet to deal with the pressures of the presidency.

I really don't feel that Kerry is being HONEST. He seems to just say what he thinks the voters want to hear. Bush, on the other hand, when asked a question, stands firm in his beliefs, answers directly, and leaves little doubt of his stance.

The final word, When Kerry mentioned the Vice Presidents' daughter. How petty and demoralizing can a man get to try and obtain a vote??

Thanks Arizona. We, too, thought the President did great last night. And just to clear the record, here are the opening lines from CSW 36-2, Presidential Debate II: "CSW will call it a draw. President Bush was much, much better than the first try. When Mr. Bush fights back, Kerry kowtows."

Back to last night. How you perceived Debate III really stole our thunder. It was right on. When Mary Beth Cahill, Kerry's campaign manager, was asked if the "daughter" comment was proper she answered, she's "fair game." We could have barfed! It absolutely was a cheap shot as it was when John Edwards brought it up in the vice-presidential debate. This campaign has been riddled with cheap shots from both sides. Overall, however, the cheap shot game was won by the dems, big time!

We are in a period of uncertainty and hard times. John Kerry has plenty of pipe dreams but they aren't practical nor affordable. His ideas will not help America to any great degree. He is saying what some Americans want to hear and they are buying into it likes lambs to the slaughter. CSW supports George Bush for President. Surprise, surprise.

It’s Only Wrong If Bush Says It!

A CSW Editorial - 10/12/04

Let’s set the scene!

John Kerry, in the New York Times Sunday magazine, had this to say about the war on terrorism:

NYT asked what would it take for Americans to feel safe again.

"We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance," Kerry said. "As a former law enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life." (Keep in mind this was said in the context of fighting terrorism, Ed.)

Do you remember what President Bush said on NBC’s "Today" show when asked about the war on terror?

"I don’t think you can win it. But I think you can create conditions so that the — those who use terror as a tool are — less acceptable in parts of the world."

And John Boy Edwards’ response from La La Land?

"After months of listening to the Republicans base their campaign on their singular ability to win the war on terror, the president now says we can’t win the war on terrorism. This is no time to declare defeat."

John Edwards

***********

The aftermath.

When President Bush said Kerry was comparing terrorism with prostitution and gambling and Kerry hoped someday it would be just a nuisance, the dems cried, "You are taking it out of context," although that’s exactly what was inferred.

When the President told America the cold, hard, truthful fact that the war on terror may not be won in the traditional sense, the dems screamed, "We’ve got you now. You’re claiming defeat, America can‘t win." As CSW has written before, this war on terrorism isn’t unlike the war on drugs or the war on crime in that no one is going to come to the table and agree to stop all crime, all drugs, or all terrorism. It is an ongoing fight that has been and will be around for a long, long, time. That does not mean we are defeated. That is just democratic rhetoric.

The President was right when he said we must make terrorism less acceptable in those parts of the world where it is a way of life. That would slow it down, not eliminate it.

By saying, "it's something that you continue to fight….," Mr. Kerry is basically agreeing with the President's contention that we can't win this in a conventional way, that it is an ongoing fight. But since Kerry is the one saying it, it must be true. It's wrong if President Bush says it. President Bush lied to America…. again. That’s just plain old foolish hypocrisy.

There is also a claim that Kerry makes that CSW takes great exception to and that is the "nuisance" comment.

Kerry said he wants America "to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance."

As in Israel or Russia, Mr. Kerry? A nuisance that at any moment can blow up the restaurant at which you are eating, the bus stop at which you are waiting, the church in which you are worshiping, or the school building in which your children are attending? Kerry is a fool if that is his belief. Terrorism should never be treated as just "a nuisance." The very word infers a cavalier attitude and acceptance and demonstrates the callousness Mr. Kerry has for this war.

As the President said, 9/11 has changed the world. It will never be the same again. Mr. Kerry seems oblivious to this fact and wants to take us back to pre 9/11 when terror wasn't a focus, just a nuisance. Mr. Kerry, it ain't gonna happen!! Perhaps if the prior administration had considered terror more than just a nuisance, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

When this administration talks of terror threats and the prudence of being vigilant, the democrats rally and whine, "They are using scare tactics to win an election." Right. Afterall, 9/11 was just a nuisance. How dim-witted, hateful, and hypocritical can the democratic party get?

The President made his point; John Kerry has his on his head.
